Carlsbad Corner Notch

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium triangular corner notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may vary from excurvate to straight.  Notches primarily enter the blade from the corners of the preform.  The notches enter the deeply into the blade creating a narrow neck.  The shoulders are barbed, re-sharpened examples have a reduced to absent barb.  The shoulder may vary from having a strong barb to having a slight upward angle.  The stem is expanding with a convex base.  This point has a random flaking pattern.    
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 33 to 65 mm,  Stem Length - 10 to 14 mm,  Blade Width - 17 to 32 mm,  Neck Width - 7 to 13 mm,  Stem Width - 10 to 17 mm.

This point is similar to the Tularosa Corner Notch point.  However this point generally has more of a convex base and a narrower neck than the Tularosa point.

This point is primarily found in the Carlsbad region of New Mexico including the Guadalupe and Sacramento Mountains in that region.  This point has been found into the El Paso region with decreased frequency.
