Pinellas Triangle
AKA: Timucua (Goggin 1953)
Cluster: Late Woodland to Early Mississippian Triangle Cluster
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small triangular point with a flattened to elliptical to plano convex cross section.  The blade is primarily straight, but may be seen with an excurvate or even less frequently, an incurvate blade.  Many examples have fine serrations on the blade.  The point primarily forms an isosceles triangle (half as wide as the height).  The base is primarily straight to slightly concave and commonly has basal thinning.  Many points are made from flakes with one face flaked and the other side only having pressure flacking along the edges giving the point a uni-facial appearance.
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 15 to 55 mm (average 25 to 35 mm),  Width - 10 to 25 mm,  Thickness - 2 to 6 mm
Commonly Utilized Material:
Cherts
Additional Comments:

Goggin discusses this style of points he calls Timucua point after the Timucua culture of Florida (1953:4)

Bullen (1975) differentiates these points from the similar Ichetucknee and Tampa points noting that these points have sharper basal corners and lack basal thinning.
