Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thick medium to large (1.5 to 3.25 inches) triangular contracting stem point with an elliptical cross section. The blade may range from straight to excurvate, but some examples have had an incurvate blade. The shoulders may range from slightly barbed to horizontal or have an upward taper. The stem is contracting and may have a pointed base, or the stem may be slightly expanding and have a convex base. This point has a random flaking pattern.

Points in this cluster were commonly used from the late Archaic period through the early to middle Woodland period (Justice 1987).
Most points in this cluster belong to the Adena culture centered in the Ohio River valley. This point is not part of the Adena culture, but is included in this cluster because it correlates morphologically and within the same time frame and geographically as the other points.
These points have previously been divided into five groups: Camden, LeFlore, Mabin, Maybon, Melvern (Justice 1987). Cambron (1986) discusses the need to subdivide this type due to the variation in points.
