Additional Comments:

Notched points were used through-out the Brooks Range at sites such as Onion Portage, Cape Krusenstern, and Anaktuvuk Pass.  These points are associated with the Late Northern Arctic Tradition and the Tuktu / Palisades Complex.  These points date to 6,000 to 4,500 B.P.  Notched points fell out of use in this region about 4,500 years age, but then made a resurgence in further southern regions about 2,500 years ago in such places as the Tananna Valley.  It has been suggested that changes in the Bering Sea may have forced the Tuktu culture from regions further north into the mainland and regions further south and brought this technology into this region.  However, there is about a 2,000 year span between these two points.  Others have suggested that technology from British Columbia and Alberta may have migrated up into this region.  Eagle Lake Site in British Columbia discuss notched points found in Athapaskan pit houses and classify them as Kavik Notched type point (Matson and Magne, 2007).  However, these points may represent a notched form later utilized by the Athapaskan Culture and represent a culture between the Tuktu and Athapaskan.
