Loyd Doty states:
ACCOKEEK CREEK (Contracted Stem) – is an Algonquian word meaning ‘at the edge of the hill’. This point type was probably named by artist and avocational archaeologist Alice Ferguson for examples recovered from the Accokeek Creek site (18PR8) known as Moyaone, a palisade village located on Accokeek creek, near the town of Accokeek, Prince George County, Maryland. The site was on her land and she performed the initial excavations before inviting the professionals in to assist. Accokeek Creek is a tidal tributary of Potomac Creek, itself a tributary of the Potomac River. From the headwaters to its mouth, Accokeek Creek is 14 miles in total length. These points are small (1” to 1 ½”), often crudely made, projectiles that are variants of the Rossville. They have expanded blades to waists with weak shoulders and medium length contracted stems with round bases. Their outline is diamond shaped and can be asymmetrical. Distribution includes the New England states and they were in use during the Early Woodland to Late Archaic period. Reference: Stephenson, Robert L. & Alice L. Ferguson with sections by Henry G.
