Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is
a medium pentagonal point with an elliptical cross section. The blade may vary from straight to excurvate. The stem is straight with a straight base. Basal thinning and
grinding are present on this point. This point has a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements: Total Length - 32 to
54 mm, Width - 15 to 26 mm, Thickness - 6 to 10 mm
Distribution:
Distribution Comments:
This point is primarily found in the North Coastal Ranges of California and the Clear Lake Basin. This point may also be found into the Sierra Nevada and into the Mohave Desert
and surrounding areas.
Additional Comments:
It has been suggested that this is a Borax lake point that has been re-sharpened to the point where the shoulders are missing and the blade is to the point of exhaustion. It has
been argued that the Borax Wide Stem, Borax Lake Narrow stem, Mostin Pentagonal, and ovate forms were all used for specific purposes and that these were not various stages of the same type, but unique types that were
all used and represent pristine forms (Justice, 2002).
